Discussion Planned In Detroit About Museums, Public Trust
DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Institute of Arts is hosting a discussion about art museums and the public trust during the annual meeting of the Association of Art Museum Directors.
The discussion is 5:30 p.m. Monday. It's free and open to the public.
The event organized by the Association of Art Museum Directors will explore perspectives outside the context of the museum community on how different people think about art museums. Detroit parks officials, a sociology professor, an opinion columnist and an arts journalist are among those involved.
The museum was the focus of debate over whether city-owned pieces of its collection should be sold as part of Detroit's bankruptcy. An $800 million promise from foundations, major corporations and the state to helped protect the DIA's art from possible sale.
