Jack White's Third Man Records Plans To Open Midtown Detroit Store

DETROIT (AP) - Jack White is planning a return to his Detroit roots with a new Third Man Records store.

White and Shinola, a business that makes watches and other goods in Detroit, announced Tuesday they've partnered to buy the building housing Shinola.

They say a Third Man store will open there by Nov. 27 in an area that's now considered part of Detroit's Midtown. Still known to many as the Cass Corridor, White says in a statement the area has "always been the most inspiring area of Detroit for me as an artist and as a Detroiter."

The musician played in the Cass Corridor in the White Stripes' early days. He says it "nurtured Detroit's soul and inventiveness for decades."

White left Detroit for Nashville, Tennessee, where Third Man has a store.
