Diego Rivera And Frida Kahlo Goes Virtual With Instagram Scavenger Hunt

By Edward Cardenas

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) - Art lovers can see the works of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo at the Detroit Institute of Arts, and take part in an Instagram scavenger hunt of places the Mexican artists visited in metro Detroit.

The seven-week Instagram scavenger hunt is being held in conjunction with the DIA's exhibition Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo in Detroit.

The scavenger hunt features places the artists visited in and around Detroit between April 1932 and March 1933 when Rivera was completing his Detroit Industry frescoes and Kahlo was developing her artistic style.

A clue to each location will be posted on the DIA's Instagram account (@DIADetroit). Once followers determine the location, they must post a photo of themselves at the location on Instagram and include "#DiegoAndFrida were here" and tag @DIADetroit in the caption.

The first five people to guess the location correctly will each receive a pair of tickets to the exhibition. One clue will be posted each week.

The Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo exhibit features nearly 70 works by the artists, including eight of Rivera' preparatory drawings for the Detroit Industry murals and 26 pieces by Kahlo, whose work has never before been shown at the DIA.

The exhibition is on view through Sunday, July 12
