DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police have released a sketch of a man wanted in the sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl on the city's northwest side.

The attack happened as the teen was walking through a wooded area on her way to Henry Ford High School, just before 8 a.m. Wednesday, in the area of Trojan and Grandville.

The suspect is described as a black male, around 22 years old, 5 feet, 5 inches tall with a thin build and a light complexion. He has short hair, light brown eyes and was clean shave, wearing a black hoodie, ski mask, blue shorts with a gray stripe and black and gray Kevin Durant gym shoes.

He was armed with a handgun.

According to police talking to WWJ's Mike Campbell, the student said she wouldn't ordinarily be walking alone but did so because the friend she'd unusually walked with died when she hit by a car the day before.

Anyone who may recognize the man in the sketch or who has any information about this crime is asked to call the Detroit Police Criminal Investigation Unit at 313-596-1950 or the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at 1-800-SPEAK UP.
