Special Olympics 'Flame Of Hope' Torch To Make Its Way Through Michigan

DETROIT (WWJ) -- With the Special Olympics set to get underway out in Los Angeles in July, metro Detroiters will have an opportunity to take part in a special event leading up to the games.

One of the biggest draws for any Olympic event is the lighting of the torch followed by its travel from city to city. Participants will have an opportunity to take part in the Unified Relay Across America from June 8 through June 10.

You can join four torch bearers who will carry the "Flame Of Hope" torch through Lansing, Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, and eventually end in Detroit at Cheli's Chili for an evening celebration that will include entertainment by local bands and media personalities.

You can run, walk or bike a segment of the relay, as the goal is to unite the country and increase understanding and acceptance of people with intellectual disabilities, as well as create communities of acceptance and inclusion along the way.
