14-Year-Old Girl Shot In The Mouth By Friend 'Playing With' Gun

PONTIAC (WWJ) - Oakland County authorities are looking for a Pontiac teen who allegedly accidentally shot a friend in the mouth and then took off.

Sheriff's officials say they were called to a home on Tennyson Ave, near  Barkell St., in Pontiac where a group of friends had been "hanging out" when the shooting occurred late Saturday night.

Witnesses told deputies a 15-year-old Pontiac boy was "playing with" an older model revolver, and — believing the gun wasn't loaded — pulled the hammer back. When the weapon fired, a 14-year-old Pontiac girl was struck in the face, witnesses said.

The injured girl was rushed by EMS to a local hospital for treatment of a single gunshot wound, while several witnesses were taken to the Oakland County Sheriff's office Pontiac substation for interviews.

The teens' friend, who lives in the home, said his mother was out-of-town and his older sister was asleep when the shooting occurred.

Authorities were still searching for the shooter, who fled with the revolver, on Monday.

Possible charges are pending.  No names were released.
