Cabrera Back In First Place Among First Basemen In All-Star Game Voting

CBS DETROIT - Detroit Tigers star Miguel Cabrera has resumed first place among American League first basemen in All-Star Game voting, according to the latest ballot update released by MLB.
Cabrera now has 9,342,149 votes, and Kansas City Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer has 8,013,745. Last week, Hosmer led Cabrera by more than a half a million votes.
The previous ballot update had eight Royals as starters. Along with Hosmer, those listed were catcher Salvador Perez, second baseman Omar Infante, shortstop Alcides Escobar, third baseman Mike Moustakas, left fielder Alex Gordon, center fielder Lorenzo Cain, and designated hitter Kendrys Morales.
Los Angeles Angels standout Mike Trout was the only non-Royal on the list last week. Now there are two - Trout and Cabrera.
Venerable starting pitchers Justin Verlander and David Price both told CBS Detroit last week that changes should be made to the voting system if the final ballot is dominated by one team.
"I think MLB's going to have some answering to do," Verlander said after the June 15 update. "I think if it holds the way it is, Major League Baseball, their hand's going to be forced to make adjustments."
The listing of Hosmer over Cabrera, who has put up monster numbers again this year, caused the most outrage in Detroit. It also preceded a dramatic uptick in the social media campaigning of the Tigers, who stepped up their barrage of tweets to encourage fans to #VoteMiggy and #VoteTigers after Hosmer passed Cabrera in the voting.
