Nautical Rescue: Ride Along With A Jobbie Nooner TowBoat Crew [VIDEO]

ST. CLAIR SHORES (WWJ) -- Hundreds of boats and thousands of revelers flock to Gull Island on Lake St. Clair every year on the last Friday in June to skip work, let loose and soak up the sun.

With all those boaters, a fair share of drinking and a treacherous body of water there's no doubt that trouble is easy to find. Help is a phone call away. A few tow boat companies specialize in these rescue missions in the area and Jobbie Nooner is a busy time of year.

We took a ride with TowBoat U.S. to see what a typical day out at Jobbie is like for them and what kind of hijinx the partiers get into.

"We have a membership base out here -- it's like a AAA on the water," Salvage Master and Operations Manager, Captain William Leslie said. "We see everything, really -- we see boats that sink, collisions."

Whether it's a dead battery, a leak or anything else, members get unlimited towing for just $70 per year. Leslie gave party-goers some very simple advice about how to stay safe on the water.

"Designate a driver. You can't let the guy driving the boat be drunk," Leslie said.
