Pedestrian Wearing Safety Vest Critically Injured By Hit-And-Run Driver Overnight
GENOA TWP. (WWJ) - Authorities are searching for a hit-and-run driver in Livingston County who critically injured a pedestrian overnight, despite the man wearing a bright safety vest.
The sheriff's office say they received a report around 11 p.m. Thursday about a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle on Brighton Road near Timber Bend Drive in Genoa Township.
When deputies arrived on the scene, they found a man lying in the road with life-threatening injuries. The vehicle that struck him had left the scene prior to their arrival, police said.
It'ss believed that the vehicle involved may be a 1990-1999 GMC truck or large SUV, based on the evidence at the scene. The vehicle was traveling westbound on Brighton Road when the crash occurred. An exact make and model of the vehicle involved is unknown, although police said it will be missing the passenger side mirror. The housing for the mirror may still be attached to the vehicle.
Police say the victim's identity is not yet known, due to his injuries. He was not carrying any identification or a cellphone. He's described as a 45-year-old heavy-set white male with brown hair. He was wearing a gray t-shirt, yellow safety vest, black mesh shorts, black tennis shoes and a black watch.
