Detroit Mom Pleads Guilty To Killing 2 Kids Found In Freezer; Outlines Crime In Gruesome Detail

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - In shockingly graphic detail, a Detroit mom described how she killed two of her children and stored their bodies in a freezer for years.

A guilty plea was entered Monday by Mitchelle Blair before Judge Dana Hathaway in Wayne County Circuit Court.

Blair admitted she killed two of her four children and placed the bodies in a home freezer a few years ago before an eviction crew discovered them.

Outlining in gruesome detail the abuse and deaths of her children, Blair said she wasn't remorseful and called Stoni Blair, 13, and Stephen Berry, 9, "demons."

The 35-year old Blair talked about why she didn't go to authorities:

"After I found out about Stephen, even before I started hitting him, I did actually call the police on advice, and I told them like a hypothetical situation like, if, 'cause I was scared, like, you get what I'm saying? What's going to happen with my other two, I definitely didn't want to lose Gabby and Matthew," she said.

Blair pleaded guilty to two counts of first degree murder, claiming the kids were sexually assaulting a younger sibling.

"I assaulted her every time he told me what she did to him - by assault I mean I punched her, I have put a bag over her head, til she lost consciousness, I threw hot water on her," Blair told the court.

Defense attorney Wyatt Harris says Blair has consistently said she wanted to plead guilty.

Alexander Dorsey, the father of Stoni and of Gabriela Blair, who's now 17. In an exclusive interview with WWJ's Charlie Langton, Dorsey thinks Blair isn't telling the truth.

"She's trying to make an excuse for it ... ain't no excuse for it," said Dorsey. " So, just trying to justify what she did ain't no justification -- for nobody that do stuff like that."

Dorsey says the stories of sexual abuse were made up, telling WWJ that the children were too close-knit.

The bodies were discovered in March when a court officer attempted to serve an eviction notice at the Martin Luther King Apartments, in the 800 block of St. Aubin Street on the city's east side.

A bailiff saw the body of girl, believed to be 13-years-old when she died, inside a stand-alone freezer and called 911. When officers arrived on the scene, they found another body in the freezer, a boy believed to be nine at the time of his death.

Police believe they died months apart in 2012 and 2013.

Authorities also are seeking to end her parental rights to two other children.

Blair will be sentenced on July 17 - she faces life in prison without parole.
