Rain Keeps River Raisin Floodwaters High In Monroe County
DUNDEE (WWJ/AP) - Forecasters say rain is keeping water high along the River Raisin in Monroe County, prolonging area flooding
The National Weather Service says Wednesday morning that a flood warning continues after some roads and parks were earlier swamped. The River Raisin at Dundee was 1.5 feet over flood stage on Wednesday morning.
The weather service says that the river's level should fall Wednesday night and go below flood stage early Thursday. Forecasters previously had said they expected the river to drop below flood stage Wednesday.
M-50 in Dundee was closed, including a bridge in downtown, after water washed over the roadway.
"The village of Dundee has had a grip on these floods for several years," Michael Slabe, a village trustee and volunteer, told WWJ Newsradio 950. "They've had three in the past six years now. We're pretty much used to handling it, and we're used to helping people who need it, and we're used to dealing with what occurs with a flood."
In Monroe, officials said the threat of flooding appeared to be minor. Still, sand and sand bags were available in the city.
