Pedestrian Critically Hurt After Stepping In Front Of SMART Bus

ROSEVILLE (WWJ) - A 35-year-old man was critically injured when police say he stepped in front of a SMART bus in Roseville.

It happened at around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 500-block of Gratiot Ave., near Shadowoods Dr., in the 13 Mile Road area.

Witnessed told Roseville police that the bus was traveling southbound on Gratiot in the right lane when the victim stepped off the curb directly into its path and was struck.

The man, whose name hasn't been released, was rushed to a local hospital in what police described as "extremely critical" condition.

It wasn't immediately clear if the man meant to harm himself or if it was an accident.

Police said it doesn't appear the bus driver was at fault. An investigation is ongoing.
