Reports: Woman Jumps From Moving Van To Escape Abductor In Detroit, Suspect In Custody

DETROIT (WWJ) - A man suspected of abducting a woman near Detroit's Mexican Town is in police custody after his victim allegedly jumped from a moving van, according to reports.

The situation unfolded early Friday morning when police first received a call about a possible abduction in the area of Michigan and Central avenues.

Officers located the vehicle but when they tried to stop the minivan, which had been reported stolen, the suspect sped off. A brief chase ensued, during which the woman apparently jumped from the moving vehicle when the suspect slowed near the area of Michigan Avenue and Junction Street.

The suspect reportedly kept driving for about another mile, until he got out of the car near of Plumer and Manson streets and took off on foot. Officers ran after the man and were eventually able to take him into custody.

Police are apparently still searching for the victim.
