Jewelry Store Robber Scared Off When Employee Triggers Alarm

ROSEVILLE (WWJ) - Police are asking the public for help in identifying a suspect who tried to rob a jewelry store in Roseville.

The incident happened around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Rainbow Jewelry on Gratiot Avenue just north of 11 Mile Road.

Police say the suspect entered the store, approached the counter and removed a handgun from the bag he was carrying, demanding jewelry.

The employee refused to give the suspect anything and quickly triggered the alarm, according to police. When the suspect realized the alarm was activated, he fled the scene on foot, headed north on Gratiot.

Police say a vehicle that was parked nearby, on Roseville Boulevard just west of Gratiot, might have been involved in the incident. It's described as a red or maroon sedan.

The suspect is described as a black male in his early 20s, 5'10" to 6' tall, wearing blue jeans, light-colored shoes, a gray hoodie and dark-colored baseball hat with an Old English D on the front. He was carrying a green/blue small bag.

Anyone with information on the suspect or the incident is urged to contact police at 586-447-4505.
