The Bell’s Beer Bayview Mackinac Race started Saturday, with about 250 teams entered. Race chairman Peter Wenzler says things got under way “with a decent breeze out of the Southeast” and “plenty of heat.”

Winners are determined based on a handicapping system.

The event caps a week of festivities in Port Huron, and thousands of spectators typically watch on shore as the fleet makes its way in a parade to the start.
