Male-Female Pair Caught In The Act, Charged In Dearborn Home Invasions

DEARBORN (WWJ) - A man and a woman are behind bars, charged in a pair of Dearborn home invasions and suspected in additional crimes in Dearborn Heights.

Dearborn police said Derrick Fletcher and Alicia Choucair were caught in the act while breaking into a houses in the 5000 block of Ternes last Tuesday.

Officers, called in on a witness' tip, spotted Fletcher as he entered one home, police said. He was arrested a short time later as he allegedly attempted to enter another home, accompanied by Choucair, who was also taken into custody at the scene.

Police said further investigation revealed that the suspects committed two home invasions and one attempted home invasion on three separate houses on that block, and stolen property recovered in their vehicle linked both suspects to several crimes in neighboring Dearborn Heights.

The pair, thus far, is charged with one count each of first degree home invasion and two counts of second degree home invasion.

Both Fletcher and Choucair were arraigned before Magistrate Al Hindman where bond was set at $20,000/10 percent for each.

In a statement, Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad credited tipsters for the arrests.

"Citizens are the first line of defense against any threat to our community and it is imperative that they report suspicious activity to the police," he said. " As a result of the citizen's vigilance and ability to quickly contact the Dearborn Police, Special Operations officers and Tactical Unit officers were able to locate and apprehend these subjects."

The pair will be back in court for a probable cause conference on Friday, July 31.

Dearborn police and Dearborn Heights police are working together on an ongoing investigation.
