Police say  the officer was attempting to make a traffic stop on another vehicle when the collision occurred. However, it’s not yet clear if the motorcycle was struck by the cruiser, or if the cruiser was struck by the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist, a 20-year-old St. Clair Shores man, was transported to the hospital where he later died. His name was not released.

Police insisted that the “tragic accident” was not the result of a police pursuit.
