Beat The Heat At Metro Detroit Cooling Centers

LIVONIA (WWJ) - When the summer heat reaches extreme temperatures, it's critical to take steps to keep cool and prevent heat illness.

To provide a safe and cool environment for those who may not have another option, local communities are opening several locations as cooling centers.

Residents are welcome to enjoy air-conditioned comfort and protection from the heat at the following locations:

Livonia

  • Community Recreation Center, 15100 Hubbard
    M-F: 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.
    SAT: 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
    SUN: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Westland

  • Westland Friendship Center, 1119 Newburgh
    T-W: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
    TH: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
    F:  9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
    SAT: 9 a.m. to noon
    .
  • Jefferson Barnes Community Vitality Center, 32150 Dorsey
    T-F: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • William P. Faust Public Library, 6160 Central City Parkway

Signs of heat-related illness include headache, dizziness, nausea, heavy sweating, confusion and pale or flushed skin. (Get hot weather tips here).
