'Michigan Matters' Exclusive: The Clock Ticks As Wayne County's Fate Looms The CEOs Debate The Options
With a financial crisis playing out in Wayne -- Michigan's largest county-- the three political leaders running the region weighed in with thoughts on what comes next during a fast paced edition of "Michigan Matters."
Wayne County Executive Warren Evans talked how he hopes a consent decree -- one of four options on the table -- is the one county commissioner go with in coming days. There is also talk of an appointment of an emergency manager, bankruptcy and mediation.
Considering Detroit went through a consent decree before it went to an emergency manager and for and would allow them to deal with the county's ills, Evans was still convinced the consent decree option was best and would avoid the need for anything else..
On other issues, talk about the controversial Great Lakes Water Authority heated up as Hackel, who has been a critic of the authority process saying he didn't receive needed information and still hasn't, expects it will ultimately be approved by communities in the three counties now weighing in on it.
The trio talked about the state of the region's roads.
Then Dan Ewald, Steve Graus and Mary Beth Kiley aappear to doscuss Detroit's Holy Redeemer Grade School and an event being held next Thursday featuring Detroit Tigers Alan Trammell to help the 132-year-old school in Southwest Detroit.
Ewald created the annual dinner-auction years ago and it has featured other sports stars including Bo Schembechler, Lloyd Carr and others. The event features dinner and a variety of sports memorabilia .
The school is helping to educating young people in an underseved community. Most of the students receive financial assistance which is raised through special events .
