Driver Arrested After Postal Worker Pinned Between Vehicles On 10 Mile Road

EASTPOINTE (WWJ) - Police have arrested the driver of a car that hit a mail carrier in Eastpointe Wednesday.

Eastpointe Deputy Police Chief Eric Keiser said the accident happened in the westbound lanes of 10 Mile Road, west of Gratiot, at around 10:30 a.m.

"The postal worker's minivan was parked in the right lane, facing westbound — the postal worker was outside of the vehicle — when the worker and the van were rear-ended by a sedan also going westbound," Keiser said.

Keiser told WWJ Newsradio 950's Zahra Huber the worker was pinned between her van and the sedan. She was alive, he said, when firefighters pulled her out, and was rushed by EMS to a local hospital.

Police said the driver of car that struck the postal carrier was taken into custody on suspicion of operating under the influence of drugs.

The injured woman remained hospitalized in stable condition later Wednesday.

A stretch of 10 Mile Road, in both directions between Dodge and Packard, was closed until noon due to the crash but has since reopened.

No names have been released as an investigation continues.
