Information Hotline Set Up For Potential Victims Of Accused Child Porn-Making Jewish Camp Counselor

DETROIT (WWJ) - The U.S. Attorney's office in Detroit has set up a call center for people wanting information about a Jewish Community Center camp counselor who is accused of having, producing and distributing child porn.

The call center, which is operating 24-hours a day, can be reached at 1-888-702-0553. If no one at the call center is able to pick up the phone, there will be a recorded message that provides information. Parents seeking information on the case can also send an email to usamie.victimservices@usdoj.gov.

West Bloomfield Police have been taking calls from concerned parents who are trying to determine if their child was possibly by victimized 21-year old Matthew Kuppe, who is scheduled to appear in federal court on Tuesday for a detention hearing.

Kuppe is facing charges of production, possession and receipt of child pornography. He was arraigned Thursday and is being held at the Oakland County Jail. Authorities say he took pictures of several children at the day camp, in "various stages of undress," and posted those photographs on a foreign image sharing website.

"This subject did have access to a lot of children at the camp — a counselor is not supposed to be alone with the child so we are ... still investigating that," West Bloomfield deputy police chief Curt Lawson told WWJ after Kuppe's Aug. 12 arrest. "We are going to continue our investigation on a state level for possible further charges."

West Bloomfield police say they were tipped off to the case by Homeland Security investigators who found the images on the web and traced them back to an internet IP address at Kuppe's residence.

According to a seven-page criminal complaint, Kuppe allegedly posted numerous nude photographs of young boys under the username "jcclockerroom." In one photo that showed a prepubescent boy's genitalia, the photographer's shoe is visible in the image, according to the complaint. When investigators were conducting surveillance of Kuppe, he was allegedly wearing the exact same pair of shoes as in the illicit photo.

When confronted by federal agents, Kuppe admitted that he posted photos, according to the complaint.

"Victims that we know of at this time range less than six (years of age)," said Lawson, "but obviously since the subject has worked at this camp for several years we want to go back and we want to make sure that we are not missing any victims."

The Jewish Community Center is cooperating with the police investigation, which is ongoing.
