In the NBA, players are all friends with each other these days. But back in the 80’s and 90’s, there was bad blood seemingly with every team. You wouldn’t find players being buddy-buddy on the court.

When you did notice players on opposing teams showing off their friendship, it was highly criticized.

I take you back to the 80’s, Detroit Pistons star guard Isiah Thomas and L.A. Lakers’ star guard Magic Johnson embraced at half court with a kiss. Not a handshake, not a fist bump — but a kiss.

In the video below, Magic Johnson explains how mad his head coach Pat Riley was over the incident.

Over the weekend, a story was published by uproxx sports showing a billboard in Los Angeles that has an image of the Thomas and Johnson kiss.
