Accident Involving Semi-Truck Shuts Down Southbound I-75 At 11 Mile

ROYAL OAK (WWJ) -- An accident involving a semi-truck completely shut down southbound I-75 for several hours on Friday.

Southbound I-75 between Rochester Road and I-696 was closed at 11 Mile, where reports said a pickup truck carrying lawn equipment slammed into the back of a semi-truck. The freeway reopened just before 3:30 p.m.

MDOT spokesperson Diane Cross said that the accident resulted in serious, yet most likely not fatal, injuries.

"This is an accident involving a semi and a car and we have serious injuries on that," Cross said. "We're going to try to at least get one lane open to try to get those folks who are stuck on the freeway off, but in the meantime we don't want to add any more cars to that and we don't know how long this is going to take to clean up."

Cross said traffic was already slow in the area because bridgework has reduced I-75 to two lanes at 13 Mile Road.
