Video Appearing To Show Detroit Taxi Driver Defecating In Public Draws Ire, Disgust

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A security video appearing to show a taxi driver defecating in public on Detroit's west side is being met with reactions of disgust.

Garrett Morse tells WDIV-TV he was troubleshooting with a video surveillance client when he saw the recording, taken about 6 a.m. Sunday. Morse describes the scene, saying the driver "pulls into the alley, hops out of his van and proceeds to use the bathroom."

In the video, the driver stops his van at the Keep It Clean car wash, at Chicago and Marlowe, and gets out with toilet paper in hand. He walks to the front of his vehicle, drops his pants, squats down and does his business.

Detroit City Councilman George Cushingberry says he's "abhorred at that kind of conduct."

"I hope the company deals with him because we can't afford to have that kind of activity as our ambassadors for Detroit," Cushingberry told the station.

The cab company says it'll work with police on an investigation, if needed. It urged the TV station to turn the video over to police to investigate the alleged activity.

"Checker Cab vehicles are independently owned and the drivers are independent contractors licensed to operate by the city of Detroit and are not employed by the Checker Cab Company," read a statement. "Checker Cab has a strong relationship with the Detroit Police Department and will fully cooperate and work diligently to help DPD in this investigation."
