1-Year-Old Boy Killed, Hit By Car In Wayne County
SUMPTER TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - A one-year-old child is dead after he was hit by a car late Monday afternoon in Wayne County.
Sumpter Township police say the 19-month-old boy walked out onto Harris Road near Savage, south of Detroit Metro Airport, at 5:25 p.m., and was struck
The toddler was rushed to a local hospital by Huron Valley Ambulance where he died, despite life-saving efforts.
"Our heartfelt condolences go out to the child's family during this difficult time," said police in a release.
The 59-year old driver involved — a Sumpter Township resident — stopped at the scene is cooperating with investigators, police said. Michigan State Police are assisting with the investigation.
The boy's name has not yet been released.
