Troy Woman Says Black Widow Found In Grapes Bought At Walmart

TROY (WWJ) -- A Troy shopper brought home an unexpected guest in the fruit she purchased from a local grocery store.

Ariel Jackson said she discovered a Black Widow spider while rinsing grapes she bought from Walmart in Troy on Monday. Jackson told WWJ Newsradio 950's Zahra Huber she shut the lid of the grapes container quickly and called 911.

"All of the sudden I just see this black spider come crawling out," Jackson said.

"I told them that 'this isn't really an emergency, but I have a Black Widow spider in my grapes and I don't really know what to do,'" Jackson said." He kind of just paused and was like, 'kill it' and I was like 'you want me to kill it? You're not going to send anyone over?' This is a poisonous spider and he's like, 'yeah, just kill it and throw it away.'"

Jackson's boyfriend and brother-in-law took the container outside and sprayed the spider with insect killer until they were sure it was dead.

A Walmart spokesman said they take this matter very seriously and are investigating the allegations.
