Lions Release First Injury Report; Levy Dealing With Hip Injury

The mystery of linebacker DeAndre Levy's undisclosed injury that has kept him out of practice for the better part of two weeks is at least partially solved: It's a hip problem.

The Lions released their first injury report of the season Wednesday, in advance of their opener against San Diego on Sunday. Levy was listed as one of the three Detroit players who did not practice, along with guard Larry Warford and defensive tackle Caraun Reid, who both have been dealing with high ankle sprains this preseason.

In addition, Detroit had three players who were limited in Wednesday's practice: tight end Eric Ebron (ankle), linebacker Tahir Whitehead (elbow) and offensive tackle LaAdrian Waddle (elbow).

With both Levy and Whitehead dealing with injuries, it's a little clearer why Detroit elected to keep seven linebackers on the 53-man roster. Linebacker was one of the positions general manager Martin Mayhew mentioned, when explaining that some areas of the roster would keep more players because of injury.

The extent of Levy's injury, or how long it could keep him out, is unclear, and head coach Jim Caldwell has declined to specify multiple times.

At the time of their injuries, Reid and Warford were expected to be back by the beginning of the season.
