Man Wanted For Teen Sex Assault In East Lansing Is Captured In California After Year On The Run

EAST LANSING (WWJ) - A 26-year-old man who was wanted in East Lansing for allegedly sexually assaulting a teenager has finally been captured by police in California after more than a year on the run.

Police say Mikael Alexandre Frutin was taken into custody on Friday, Sept. 4 by the U.S. Marshals Service in Los Angeles.

Police had been searching for Frutin since July 2014 when they opened a criminal sexual conduct investigation into his alleged sexual relationship with a then 14-year-old girl. Frutin was the girl's gymnastics instructor at Red Cedar Gymnastics in Delhi Township, although police say none of the alleged crimes happened at the center.

Police say Frutin fled the state after hearing of the investigation. A recent tip was received in Madison, Wisconsin, notifying authorities that Frutin was possibly in California, where he was ultimately arrested.

Frutin will be extradited back to Michigan, where he will be arraigned at a later date. At this time, it is unknown when he will arrive back in Michigan.
