DETROIT (WWJ) – Detroit police are hoping the public can help them catch a killer after a man was fatally shot while waiting in the drive-thru of a coney island restaurant on the city’s east side.

The shooting took place around 4:30 a.m. on Labor Day, outside of Robert’s Coney Island on 7 Mile Road near Schoenherr. The chilling crime was caught on camera.

According to police, the 47-year-old victim was sitting in the passenger seat of his female friend’s vehicle, waiting in the drive-thru of the restaurant when a suspect approached with a gun drawn and demanded their money.

The female exited the vehicle and ran inside of the restaurant. As the victim attempted to climb into the driver’s seat, police say the suspect fired multiple shots, fatally wounding him. The suspect then took off on foot.

The man, whose name was not released, was declared dead at the scene. The woman was uninjured.

Police are now trying to identify the suspect — described as a black male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and armed with a handgun.
