Michigan Matters: Aviation

It was talk about exposing more young people in Metro Detroit to aviation as potential careers that Kevin Walsh, of the Yankee Air Museum, and Brian Smith, discussed during taping of "Michigan Matters."

The show -- which airs 11:30 am Sunday on CBS 62 -- talked about the importance of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) to young people so they can be better prepared for a technological future. The show is hosted by Carol Cain.

Brian Smith, of Detroit Tuskegee Airmen EAA Chapter 1351, started the Young Eagles program at Detroit's city airport a few years ago.

Over 1.5 million young people have taken their first flight at airports across the nation as part of the EAA program.

Walsh discussed renovations at the Yankee Air Museum and an upcoming event Oct. 3 at the Belleville Museum to encourage more girls to go into STEM careers.
