General Motors President Buys Fisher Mansion In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - The Fisher Mansion in Detroit's Palmer Woods neighborhood has been bought by the president of General Motors and his wife for $1.55 million -- one of the highest prices ever paid for a Detroit residence.

The 28-room, Tudor Revival-style home on Balmoral Drive was put back on the market this summer after plans unraveled to turn it into a dormitory for addiction treatment patients. The previous owner paid $1.6 million, but couldn't overcome opposition to plans for the house.

City records show GM President Daniel Ammann and his wife, Pernilla, bought the 1926 Tudor Revival-style mansion on July 31, according to a report in the Detroit Free Press. The mansion was built in 1926 for one of the brothers of the Fisher family in the auto body business.
