12 People Hurt In Accident Involving Teen Driver, DDOT Bus In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - A 17-year-old driver says his brakes failed and that's why he smashed into a Detroit city bus early Tuesday morning.

Detroit police said the accident happened just before 1 a.m. on the I-75 service drive at 7 Mile Road.

The driver and seven passengers on the Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT) bus were taken to a local hospital. All of them were treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released, according to police.

The teenage driver and the three passengers in his SUV were also taken to the hospital, treated and released.

It's unclear if there actually was anything wrong with the teen's vehicle. Police said he was ticketed.
