'The Bus' Returns To Renaissance High: Success Is Possible

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit native and Pro Football Hall of Fame member Jerome Bettis was back home talking to students at Detroit's Renaissance High School, telling them that success is possible, especially if you're from Detroit.

" ... gone through a tough environment and you come though on the other side, so success is possible and that's what I want to try to present to them," said Bettis.

Bettis, who is a graduate of McKenzie High, was in town as part of the Hall of Famer's hometown program in which inductees are honored with ceremonies and plaques in their respective home towns.

One inspired student told WWJ's Stephanie Davis that it's all about perseverance.

"Ninety percent of life is tragedy - it's what you do afterwards and his 10 percent turned out to be really good."

"He was really inspirational," said Kyle, a senior at Renaissance High School. "It's neat to see a successful man from Detroit and hope that I can follow in his footsteps."

A special Hall of Fame tribute plaque will hang on the wall of Renaissance High.
