MDOT Crews Rush To Fix 15-Foot Wide Pothole On I-75 Rouge River Bridge

DETROIT (WWJ) - Road crews rushed to fix a gigantic pothole on the Rouge River Bridge section of I-75 before the commute began Friday morning.

The Michigan Department of Transportation shut down the two right northbound lanes of I-75, between Dearborn Street and Springwells, in southwest Detroit overnight after a massive pothole developed.

A spokesperson told reporters the hole measured 15-feet by 6-feet. Reporting live from the scene, WWJ's Mike Campbell said the hole was located near the top of the bridge.

Crews poured quick-dry concrete in hopes of having it open by the morning rush hour and by 7 a.m., all lanes were reopened to traffic.

The bridge is one of the busiest in the region, according to MDOT, carrying about 115,000 vehicles per day. It is scheduled for major resurfacing and bridge deck work in 2017.
