Football Player Dies In Crash After Homecoming Game, Dance
ST. IGNACE, Mich. (AP) — A teenager who helped his Upper Peninsula high school football team win a homecoming game has been killed in a head-on crash after the dance.
Superintendent Don Gustafson says it's a "very sad time" in St. Ignace after the death of Mitch Snyder, a student at LaSalle High School and member of a family that's been in the area for years.
A car driven by the 17-year-old Snyder was hit early Saturday, about 15 minutes after he took his girlfriend home.
The 40-year-old driver of the other vehicle is in custody. Alcohol could be a factor in the crash.
Snyder made eight tackles and recovered a fumble Friday in a 60-0 victory over Mancelona. A candlelight vigil was held Sunday night at the football field.
