Huron Township Teen Arrested Over Tweet About Bringing Gun To School

HURON TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - A Huron High School student has been charged with disturbing the peace after he allegedly posted a threat on social media.

The Wayne County Prosecutor's office says the 16-year-old boy tweeted that he "was going to bring a gun" to the school on Monday.

Huron Schools Superintendent Richard Naughton says school officials reported the incident to police.

The student was taken into custody Tuesday evening. No one was hurt.

"Huron Township police officers were vigilant in their response and have taken steps to neutralize any possible threat to student safety," Naughton said, in a statement. "As always, student safety is our primary focus in the Huron School District.  As a result, appropriate measures have been taken to ensure the safety of students and staff."

Naughton didn't detail what the tweet had said, describing it only as "a threatening comment."

A preliminary hearing was held Wednesday and the student was released on a $1,000 personal bond.

He is scheduled to appear in Wayne County Juvenile Court on Nov. 2.

The teen's name has not been released due to his age.
