Woman Found Shot In Head Near Detroit-Highland Park Border

DETROIT (WWJ) - Authorities say a 33-year-old woman is clinging to life after she was apparently shot in the head near the border of Detroit and Highland Park.

The woman was found laying in the middle of the street near McNichols Road and John R, suffering from a head injury.

A man told police he dropped the woman off in the area around 6:45 a.m. Wednesday, circled around the block and returned to find her slumped over on the ground. He took the woman to Henry Ford Hospital where officials say she was rushed into surgery. She was last reported in critical condition.

Other circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear. Police say the "type of trauma" the woman received is still being determined.

Police have not yet made any arrests in the case, which remains under investigation.

Anyone with information on the case is urged to contact police at 313-596-1140.

It was first reported that the victim may have been transgender. However, investigators say that is not the case.
