Man Shot In Foot In Carjacking At Detroit Gas Station

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police are investigating after a man was shot in the foot during a carjacking on the city's east side.

It happened at around 1:30 a.m. Monday at a gas station in the area of 7 Mile and Ryan roads.

Police said the man was pumping gas at the BP, across the street from Pershing High School, when he was shot. The gunman then hopped into the victim's car and sped off.

The BP station had its doors locked, according to witnesses, so the wounded man was forced to limp across street to another gas station where a good Samaritan picked him up and drove him to a local hospital.

Local resident Tamika Brown — who is a longtime customer at that particular BP — says that area is normally pretty safe.

"It's terrible because this is an excellent gas station!" she told WWJ Newsradio 950's Charlie Langton. "This is the best one! I come here every morning."

Police, later Monday morning, were still looking for the shooter and the stolen vehicle.  It's described as a black 2010 Dodge Challenger with a red stripe.
