Dog Missing For 2 Years Reunited With Family [Video]

DETROIT (WWJ) - He's got a whale of a tale to tell but this dog is not giving up any secrets.

A little over two years ago, a woman and her brother started putting up 'missing' posters for their beloved Labrador mix named Lazarus. They didn't know what happened to him and could only speculate on whether he ran away or was stolen.

Flash forward to October 12, 2015 as a Detroit- area Animal Control Center checks in a dog brought in as a stray.

"On Monday a citizen brought in a stray in Southgate -- the animal control officers scanned the dog -- to see if it was chipped," says Animal Control Officer Aaron Bertera. "Got the owner's information  ... the microchip doesn't lie."

Bertera says as soon as the woman and the dog were in the same room it was obvious they had a bond.

"The dog was so happy and the owner so emotional -- he instantly recognized her and was happy - it was so emotional," says Bertera.

In a second video, Kayla Song says that "my brother Mitch's dog Lazarus went missing on October 12, 2013"  ... and the emotional reunion between Lazarus and Mitch is documented here: [Warning Strong Language]

"You're Lazarus, aren't you bubba?" says Mitch as he gets on the floor and hugs his adventurous pet.

Other than suffering from a flea allergy -- Lazarus is in healthy condition and delighted to be back home with family.
