Fans Asked To Wear Pink On Friday For Ninth Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Night

DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings are asking fans to wear pink this Friday, Oct. 16, when the team hosts the Carolina Hurricanes for the ninth annual Breast Cancer Awareness Night at Joe Louis Arena at 7:30 p.m. Any fan who wears pink to the game can enter to win a 2015-16 team-signed Red Wings jersey by picking up a raffle ticket on the concourse behind Section 126.
Fans can also participate in a variety of activities while raising funds to help alleviate the costs of breast cancer screening and treatment for uninsured and underinsured women in the Metro Detroit area. When doors open at 6:00 p.m., the Joe Louis Arena concourse will feature a silent auction, mystery puck draw and a special sale of Red Wings baseball hats, with all proceeds benefiting the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute. Additionally, the first 5,000 fans in attendance on Friday will receive a pink BCA Night themed T-shirt.

BCA Night activities include:
• For $35, fans can purchase an autographed hockey puck from an assortment of 300 hockey pucks signed by members of the 2015-16 team. Each signed puck will be packaged in a black box to conceal the autograph. The fan who receives the box with a puck signed in gold by Jimmy Howard will meet the Red Wings goaltender after the game.
• More than 40 unique items will be auctioned off behind Section 126, including: the players' sticks wrapped in pink hockey tape that will be used during the pregame warm-ups; a 2013-14 team-signed Winter Classic replica jersey; defenseman Brendan Smith's tickets to the Red Wings home game on Tuesday, Nov. 10 against the Washington Capitals with a post-game meet and greet; a 2015-16 team-signed Jimmy Howard goalie stick and a variety of Red Wings experiences, including the opportunity to ride the Zamboni at a Red Wings game.
• The Red Wings will wear pink-themed jerseys during warm-ups on Friday, which will then be auctioned online at auctions.nhl.com with the proceeds benefitting The Pink Fund. The auction will open on Friday, Oct. 16 following the Red Wings game against Carolina and will run through Thursday, Oct. 29.
• Fans can purchase black baseball hats with an embroidered pink and white Winged Wheel logo for $20 (cash and check only) behind Section 117 on the concourse to benefit the Karmanos Cancer Institute.
• The Red Wings will honor those affected by breast cancer by hosting 40 patients and survivors in two suites. Each will receive a special gift bag with Red Wings and breast cancer awareness items.
• Defenseman Brendan Smith will welcome 20 two-time breast cancer patients and survivors to a suite and meet his guests outside the locker room following the game.
• Captain Henrik Zetterberg will host breast cancer patients and their families in the Zetterberg Foundation Suite.
• The Red Wings will host more than 60 breast cancer patients, survivors and their guests during the team's morning skate at 10:30 a.m. prior to Breast Cancer Awareness Night.
• Two women's T-shirt styles will be available for purchase on the concourse for $20 each, along with a BCA-themed pin for $5. Following BCA Night, the items can be purchased at Hockeytown Authentics in Troy (1845 E. Big Beaver Rd.).
• A portion of the Detroit Red Wings Foundation's 50/50 raffle on Saturday will benefit The Pink Fund.
• A video tribute to breast cancer patients and survivors will play during the game.
Special ticket packages have been reserved for all breast cancer patients, survivors and anyone affected by breast cancer starting at $30 apiece for upper-level seats, which includes a $10 donation back to Karmanos Cancer Institute to help uninsured or underinsured people defray the costs of diagnostic screenings and non-medical expenses at Karmanos Cancer Institute.
