Fire Chief Dave Brogan says firefighters found the man unconscious and pulled him from the burning home. TV stations WDIV and WXYZ report the man was taken to a hospital and died.

Brogan says the man was apparently sleeping when the fire started. Firefighters extinguished the blaze before it spread to neighboring properties.

Brogan says a smoke detector in the home didn’t have a battery. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
