Flags To Be Lowered In Honor Of DNR Officer Killed In Plane Crash

LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Gov. Rick Snyder says U.S. flags will be lowered to half-staff within the State Capitol Complex and on all state buildings in honor of a Michigan Department of Natural Resources conservation officer who died in a small plane crash.

The flag lowering for 58-year-old Arthur A. Green III of Farmington Hills is Thursday. In a statement, Snyder says Green "dedicated an entire life of service to the state."

Green died in the Aug. 9 crash while en route to a DNR meeting in northern Michigan. The plane went down in Emmet County's Little Traverse Township while approaching the airport for Harbor Springs, about 55 miles northeast of Traverse City.

Green, a first lieutenant with the DNR's Law Enforcement Division, was a Detroit police officer before joining the DNR in 1996.
