Extension Of Detroit's Dequindre Cut Nears Completion

DETROIT (AP) - An extension of Detroit's Dequindre Cut Greenway for pedestrians and bicyclists is expected to be completed before the arrival of winter.

A walking path has been installed as crews complete landscaping, electrical and call-box installation reports MLive.com.

The extension adds another half-mile stretch to the 1.35-mile pathway along an abandoned, recessed rail line. The new portion runs through Eastern Market to Mack Avenue.

The work has taken longer than originally thought. Organizers say bad winter weather and relocation of fiber optic lines caused delays.

The Dequindre Cut hosted a fall festival on Saturday featuring Halloween activities.
