Officials Receive Email Alluding To Potential Shooting At Divine Child High School

DEARBORN (WWJ) -- A West Michigan man is in custody after allegedly sending an email alluding to a possible shooting that would take place at a high school in Dearborn.

The anonymous threat made through the City of Dearborn's website on Monday morning said Divine Child High School administrators "needed to be contacted about a school shooting today."

Dearborn Police Lt. Ron Beggs said that the email was sent to the city's general account around 6 a.m. and was not addressed to anyone specifically.

"The suspect was arrested on some outstanding arrest warrants out of other communities," Beggs said. "We have not yet have an opportunity to interview the suspect. I can say though that the email messages did not indicate a particular motivation."

The suspect -- said to be a graduate of Divine Child -- was found across the state in Lincoln Township, outside of St. Joseph near the Indiana state line.

Taking no chances, Dearborn Police saturated Divine Child High School with officers on site.

"A significant, uniformed visible presence just to reassure students, staff and parents," Beggs said. "We also had a coinciding investigative working on it to identify the source of the email and the person who sent it."
