Tolliver Misses Opener To Be With Wife For Daughter's Birth

ATLANTA (AP) — Anthony Tolliver of the Detroit Pistons is not playing in the season opener against the Hawks.

In fact, he's not even in Atlanta.

The 6-foot-8 forward flew back to Detroit early Tuesday after his pregnant wife went into labor. The Tollivers now have a new daughter.

Coach Stan Van Gundy isn't sure if Tolliver will be back with the team for the home opener against Utah on Wednesday night.

Meanwhile, Tim Hardaway Jr. was a surprise scratch for the Hawks, who gave up a first-round pick to acquire him from New York.

Hardaway is missing a chance to go against his father, who is an assistant coach for the Pistons.

The Hawks did announce they have picked up the fourth-year contract options on both Hardaway and guard Dennis Schroder.
