Windsor Reopens Streets Near Ambassador Bridge After Debris Concerns

DETROIT (AP) - Officials in Windsor, Ontario, have reopened streets near the Ambassador Bridge that were closed amid concerns about fallen debris from the international span linking the city with Detroit.

Windsor says streets were closed earlier this month as a precaution after a visual inspection of the bridge's underside. The Detroit Free Press reports streets were reopened Tuesday after Detroit International Bridge Co. installed planking on sections of the bridge's underside.

Windsor says there may be other closures due to work on the 86-year-old bridge over the Detroit River.

Bridge Co. President Dan Stamper tells The Detroit News that they "installed a retention system under the bridge out of caution."

Bridge owner Manuel "Matty" Moroun wants to build a new span adjacent to the current one, but his efforts have been stymied.
