Michigan Rare-Car Mechanic Gets Prison In Tax Evasion Case

SMITHS CREEK, Mich. (AP) - A judge has kicked the tires and sentenced a Michigan rare-car mechanic to two years in prison for tax evasion.

The government says Terry Myr of St. Clair County failed to file tax returns for more than a decade. He works on Ferrari cars and other classic autos and sold a Ferrari engine in 2009 for $610,000.

Myr was sentenced Thursday by Detroit federal Judge Nancy Edmunds. The two-year prison term was far below the 41-month sentence requested by the government. Prosecutors say Myr owes nearly $750,000.

In a court filing, his attorney says he acted in good faith, even if Myr's belief about tax laws may have been wrong.
