Ecorse Woman Killed When SUV Hits Tree Off I-94

DEARBORN (WWJ) - A 56-year-old woman is dead after she crashed her SUV into a tree off I-94 Thursday night.

Michigan State Police say they responded to a call about a vehicle blocking traffic, in the area of westbound I-94 near Addison Road in Dearborn, to find Cathy Williams of Ecorse behind the wheel of her Ford Explorer.

She was unconscious with "very labored breathing" and efforts to revive her at the scene were unsuccessful, police said. She was taken by EMS to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Police said an investigation revealed that Williams was headed westbound on I-94 before 8:30 p.m. when her SUV veered off the road and struck a tree. The vehicle then re-entered the freeway, coming to rest in the right lane.

It's unclear at this time what may have caused Williams to drive off the road, as an MSP investigation is ongoing.

It appears no other vehicles were involved. No one else was hurt.
