Former Michigan State Football Star Eric Allen Dies At 66

EAST LANSING (AP) — Eric Allen, the Big Ten's leading rusher at Michigan State in 1971, has died. He was 66.

Allen rushed for 350 yards against Purdue that year — a school record that still stands. His 18 touchdowns and 1,494 rushing yards were best in the Big Ten in '71.

Wallace McKnight of McKnight-Fraser Funeral Homes in Georgetown, South Carolina, says Allen died Tuesday. He was in hospice care in Georgetown.

Allen finished tenth in the Heisman Trophy balloting in 1971. He was drafted by the Baltimore Colts but played four seasons for Toronto in the Canadian Football League.
