Hamtramck Councilman Admits To Hit-And-Run Incident, Denies Alcohol Involvement

HAMTRAMCK (WWJ) -- A council member in the city of Hamtramck -- who is up for re-election on Tuesday -- has found himself in a bit of hot water with police.

City Councilman Robert Zwolak confirmed that he hit a vehicle parked outside of the Post Ten bar on Joseph Campau on Oct. 31, but denied that alcohol was involved.

"Officers made contact with Councilman Zwolak at his residence, who said that he did strike a parked vehicle," Hamtramck Police Corporal Matthew Wood said. "Officers issued him a misdemeanor citation for leaving the scene of a property damage accident."

Witnesses said that Zwolak struck the vehicle several times before driving away. Zwolak told WWJ Newsradio 950 that he will not comment further about the incident until after a court appearance, which is yet to be scheduled.

Zwolak is one of six city council candidates running for three open seats in Hamtramck on Tuesday.
